This tour includes collections maintained by libraries, museums, and historical societies across the region. Collectively, they offer students, researchers, and historians a way to explore local and state history, as well as more specialized topics such as aviation, urban planning, and African American history. Together, they show how community archives help people connect with the story of the county.\r\nThe project builds on the early work of the Prince George’s County Historical Society and the volunteers and historians who created the Tricentennial website in 1996. Their efforts highlighted exhibits, sites, and resources that helped residents understand the county’s past. Since then, many of these collections have made changes that reveal a more inclusive way of interpreting history. As the country approaches America 250, this shift is part of a larger movement to share, preserve, and recognize the experiences of all the people who have shaped their communities.\r\nThis project shares how these collections have intentionally shifted over time and the reasons behind those changes. Reviewing the sites and collections revealed recurrent trends: moving beyond places and landmarks to highlight relationships, connections, and the people behind them, rethinking representation and access in the digital era. Each of these themes shapes how visitors and researchers encounter the past.\r\nMany of these collections are small, and each faces ongoing challenges in making materials more accessible to the public. Staff and volunteers continue working through cataloging, digitization, and database updates so that more people can find, use, and learn from these resources online and in person.\r\nThis tour invites readers to explore how local collections preserve memory, expand understanding, and support a fuller picture of Prince George’s County.\r\n</p>","postscript_text":"Acknowledgements:\r\nThank you to the curators, librarians, historians, staff, and volunteers who shared their insight and for the ongoing work they do behind the scenes to preserve and provide access to these collections.\r\n\r\nMeagan Baco, Anacostia Trail Heritage Area\r\nKofi Bart-Martin, Oxon Hill Branch Library\r\nHannah Erickson, Hyattsville Branch Library \r\nBarbara Hopkins, Prince George's County Genealogical Society \r\nLuke Perez, College Park Aviation Museum\r\nDonna Schneider, Prince George's County Historical Society\r\nKaren Riekert, Prince George's County Genealogical Society ","tour_img":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/fullsize/45a320424c9eb4d1b30e9f1337ef86dc.jpg","items":[{"id":6,"title":"Prince George's Room, Hyattsville Branch Library","latitude":38.96935309999999930141711956821382045745849609375,"longitude":-76.9496304999999978235791786573827266693115234375,"thumbnail":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/square_thumbnails/45a320424c9eb4d1b30e9f1337ef86dc.jpg","fullsize":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/fullsize/45a320424c9eb4d1b30e9f1337ef86dc.jpg","subtitle":"History and Collections of Prince George’s County","address":"6530 Adelphi Rd, Hyattsville, MD","custom":{"subtitle":null,"text":null}},{"id":8,"title":"Tugwell Room, Greenbelt Branch Library","latitude":39.00079960000000056652424973435699939727783203125,"longitude":-76.8793660000000045329215936362743377685546875,"thumbnail":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/square_thumbnails/cfe2385873b0260512465d40b012cab0.jpg","fullsize":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/fullsize/cfe2385873b0260512465d40b012cab0.jpg","subtitle":"Greenbelt and the Making of Communities.","address":"11 Crescent Rd, Greenbelt, Maryland","custom":{"subtitle":null,"text":null}},{"id":9,"title":"Marietta House Museum and Research Library","latitude":38.966947599999997464692569337785243988037109375,"longitude":-76.7990649999999988040144671685993671417236328125,"thumbnail":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/square_thumbnails/44ef62968ceb49481cf2735398a0542a.jpg","fullsize":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/fullsize/44ef62968ceb49481cf2735398a0542a.jpg","subtitle":"Histories of the Marietta Estate and Its Enslaved Community","address":"5626 Bell Station Rd, Glenn Dale, MD","custom":{"subtitle":null,"text":null}},{"id":5,"title":"Prince George’s County Genealogical Society Library","latitude":38.96658750000000281943357549607753753662109375,"longitude":-76.744912099999993415622157044708728790283203125,"thumbnail":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/square_thumbnails/ff46c9cb78d7cfab526bb7a36465f7ff.jpg","fullsize":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/fullsize/ff46c9cb78d7cfab526bb7a36465f7ff.jpg","subtitle":"Genealogy, Family Roots, and Records Beyond the County","address":"12219 Tulip Grove Dr. Bowie, MD 20715","custom":{"subtitle":null,"text":null}},{"id":10,"title":"College Park Aviation Museum and Library","latitude":38.9788369999999986248440109193325042724609375,"longitude":-76.9222548999999986563125276006758213043212890625,"thumbnail":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/square_thumbnails/2f3b4c6af56034aeb9251031b9799acb.jpg","fullsize":"https://www.map.curatescape6.reclaim.hosting/files/fullsize/2f3b4c6af56034aeb9251031b9799acb.jpg","subtitle":"Aviation History, Collections, and Representation","address":"1985 Corporal Frank Scott Dr., College Park, MD 20740","custom":{"subtitle":null,"text":null}},{"id":11,"title":"The Frederick S.
